The Vietcong's Tunnels and Bases
The tunnels were the main strategy that made the Vietcong so successful. The tunnels were up to 30 miles long, and allowed the Vietcong to hide and avoid the U.S. Soldiers when the time wasn't right to fight. Although they seem so very successful, the tunnels caused up to 40,000 Vietcong deaths while trying to protect them. They knew that if the tunnels were compromised, they would surely lose the war. The Vietcong also died from famine and lack of hydration under ground, which gave the Americans a little bit of an advantage. Also the Americans had people in the Army whose job is was to go underground and search for the VC and to learn the tunnels. This may have been the most dangerous job of the war, because even in the tunnels there were booby traps that the Vietcong knew about, and caused many American Soldiers to be tortured and killed.
